As a Western Shoshone silversmith, I create heavy-gauge, large-format presentation pieces designed to honor milestone achievements, safety excellence, and lifetimes of dedicated service. Randy’l Teton (Sacajawea Model)

This one of a kind heritage medallion was for my collector Randy’l Teton for her to show during her 2026 book tour. For the last 26 year s the US Government has been putting her image on millions & millions of the $1 “gold” coins. Randy’l asked me to forge something that would entwine the heritage of Sacajawea, Randy’l and myself. Since we are all Shoshone Native American.

This is the definition of forged by heritage. It was an awesome experience to work with Randy’l and hope to do it again.

Our Roots: The Deep History of Great Basin Mining

The land the Western Shoshone call home has always been a vital piece of North American history. Our homeland spans the Great Basin, encompassing nearly all of Nevada and stretching into the surrounding states. While many see Nevada mining as a modern industry, the truth is that mining has been alive in this desert for thousands of years.

Long before the modern rush, early mining was driven by trade and the harvest of sacred and utilitarian stones. Near Midas, Nevada, lies an ancient stone quarry rich with a distinct knife material known as TosaWihi. This prized stone was so extensively traded by our ancestors that artifacts made from it have been found as far as the Great Lakes, deep into Canada, and down into Mexico.

The Great Basin is also world-renowned for its brilliant turquoise and variscite—vibrant stones that were traded across vast distances and remain highly sought-after by Indigenous cultures across the globe today.

While our lands are now famous for gold and modern precious metals, the spirit of extraction, refinement, and artistry remains unchanged.
